BioLoo Toilet Systems
Integrated, On-Site Sanitation for Critical Sites
BioLoo Toilet Systems
The BioLoo System is a robust, integrated flush toilet solution designed to solve sanitation challenges in locations where traditional infrastructure is unavailable, impractical, or poses a health risk. We combine safe, hygienic access with on-site wastewater treatment, promoting public health and resource security.
The Problem Solved
Traditional bucket systems, septic tanks, and chemical toilets in mining communities, rural schools, building sites, and temporary installations are often unpleasant, unsustainable, and a major health hazard. BioLoo eliminates these issues by providing a self-contained, integrated solution that treats waste immediately.
How It Works
BioLoo’s treatment is powered by the same advanced, low-energy 5-Shin Biological Technology used in our largest industrial plants. The system uses natural, integrated processes to treat black and grey water.
Integrated Plant
The flush toilet system is equipped with a built-in wastewater treatment plant, collecting and treating waste at the source.
Zero Infrastructure Dependence:
Eliminates the need for external sewer lines, storage tanks, or frequent pump-outs.
Natural Treatment
Natural, biological processes break down waste, producing clean and odourless treated water that meets regulatory discharge limits.
Chemical-Free
No harsh chemicals required, protecting the environment and ensuring the integrity of the treated effluent.
Water Reuse
The treated water can be reused immediately for non-potable applications like toilet flushing, dust suppression, or irrigation.
Maximum Water Conservation
Dramatically reduces the demand for fresh municipal water, contributing to water security.

FAQs
1. Does the BioLoo require a connection to a municipal sewer line?
No. The BioLoo is a completely decentralized, “off-grid” solution. It features an integrated wastewater treatment plant built directly into or beneath the unit. This allows you to have a full water-borne, flushing toilet experience in locations where no municipal infrastructure exists, such as remote mining sites, rural schools, or temporary construction camps.
2. How is the BioLoo different from a chemical toilet or a pit latrine?
Unlike chemical toilets (which require frequent pumping and use harsh chemicals) or pit latrines (which are unhygienic and smell), the BioLoo is a biological system. It uses our “5-Shin Technology” to treat waste naturally. This results in a dignified, odorless, and hygienic flush-toilet experience that mimics a standard bathroom, but without the environmental or maintenance burden of older methods.
3. What can I do with the water after it has been treated by the BioLoo?
The BioLoo produces clear, odorless, and safe effluent that meets DWS (Department of Water and Sanitation) General Limits. This water is ready for immediate reuse in non-potable applications. Most clients use the treated water to re-flush the toilets, for dust suppression on-site, or for irrigating surrounding gardens, effectively creating a “closed-loop” water cycle.
4. Can the BioLoo handle high-volume use in a school or mining environment?
Yes. The BioLoo is specifically engineered for high-traffic environments. It is constructed with robust materials, including high-quality stainless steel sanitaryware that is easy to clean and vandal-resistant. Because the system utilizes a resilient biological process rather than complex mechanics, it can handle the “shock loads” typical of a school break-time or a shift-change at a mine.
5. What are the site requirements for installing a BioLoo?
The primary requirement is a source of water for the initial flush (which can be from a tank, borehole, or municipal source). Because the system is modular and “plug-and-play,” it can be deployed rapidly with minimal civil works. It can be installed as a permanent fixture or moved to a new location if your project site shifts, making it an ideal long-term asset for construction and mining operations.
All our systems are designed to meet the Department of Water & Sanitation (DWS) General Authorisations, as this is a strict requirement for developers and commercial property owners in South Africa.
